This rod is unique to 1970 because it was the first year of the lock out rod. Very hard to come by when you consider there was no 390 option for 1970. Notice this rod features two different part numbers. Adjustable rod that connects the floor shifter to the big block C-6 automatic transmissions. C6 transmissions only, code "U" on your door data plate tag. 428 Cobra Jet engines were the only Cougar engines to receive the C-6 automatic transmission. The wand will be intact on this grade "A" driver side (left hand) remote mirror and the chrome will be free of pits. Notice the 1970 mirrors differ from 1969 in that the wand exits the door panel at a 90 degree angle. Rare find. The difference between this and a 69 is the 90 degree angled portion that mounts to your door panel. This is correct for a XR7 or Eliminator. Ford Casting number as seen on the bottom side is D0OB-17713-AW. Many people misinterpret it as D00B-17713-AW, D00B-17713-AW or DO0B-17713-AW. Perfect base with no cracks or bends. This tube is embedded into the cylinder head making it rather difficult to remove intact. Note that the nut and ferrule assembly is made of two pieces, with the ferrule being a compression fitting used to secure the smog tubes to a series of ports on the cylinder head. Sold individually, 8 total needed for smog installation. Application is 1967 - 1970 390, 427. 428CJ engines. In 1975 Ford started making these out of stainless steel. For all 1968 through 1970 R and Q code 428CJ and SCJ air cleaners. Snorkel has the opposite jog than 390GT snorkels. This one jogs towards the rear of the engine. Originally this snorkel should have had an ink stamp of C8OF-9A626-A or -B. Ford MPC number C8OZ-9A626-C.

This clips affixes the plastic speedometer gear to the cable. Some have found that this OEM original clip fits a little better than the reproduction we offer. *Trivia* Did you know the first Cougar cast for production in 1968 was this "Custom Cougar"? This fine example was offered up on ebay summer 2008 for a mere $6500.

This is a good used speedometer cable from a 1969 - 1970 Mercury Cougar with a FMX transmission. The cable housing has no burns and the fragile plastic squeeze clip that fastens it to the back of the speedometer is not broken. Keep in mind that some 1970 models use a two part cable. This cable will work in place of the two part cable seen on some 1970 cars. This cable measures 58 1/2" at its very most outer ends.

According to the Master Parts Catalog (MPC), any Cougar with a 3.91 or 4.11 rear end and a 4 speed manual would have been equipped with this reducer. Boss 302 and 428 Cobra Jet engines were the only cars that could be ordered with those rear end ratios.
