This is a grade 'A' used mirror assembly with no UV damage and has had the mirror lens "re-silvered". Keep in mind a restored lens that is decades old will look good when finished but almost never flawless as the surface of the glass will usually have light scratches and often faint spotting on the backside from previous water damage / staining. We have created all of the components needed to economically install the steel nutsert or Riv-nut for the exterior mirrors that mount to the car doors. Our steel Riv-nut uses a 1/4 inch hole. You will need a 5/32 Allen or hex key, 3/8 inch wrench, and a 7/16 inch wrench. The Riv-nut needs to be assembled on the kit as shown prior to installation. Quality reproduction mirror for your 1967 Cougar. Whereas it is not easily detected at first glance, the head of the mirror does have a slightly different contour than original. The base is spot on perfect and the controller, cable assembly are all excellent quality. Fine scratches but great for the guy who wants original. The Reproduction does not have the II-DMI-6 lettering at the bottom like this original. You will have to carefully peel (roll back) the aluminum backing that is glued in place before gluing it in your mirror. If you use needle nose pliers and take your time it usually works fine. This threaded replacement wand will require you to cut 8/32" fine threads in your original controller. Your OEM mirror controller is made of a very soft metal so one can often install these as "self tapping".1967 and 1968 are different, see comparison picture. The 1968 version was rounded off due to new safety standards. The mirror nut tool will fit over the 1967 wand, but not the 1968.
