This gives the thumb release button in your T shaped shift handle its tension. If it is rusted then your button will not return back to its outer position easily. Fits 1967-73 Mercury Cougar and 1965-73 Ford Mustang. Technically this spring fits all Ford and Mercury floor shifters 1965-73. Ford part number C5ZZ-7C300-A. The MPC shows this spring to have a free length of 2-1/16 inches.

Exact reproduction of the 1967-68 Mercury Cougar and 1966-68 Ford Mustang clutch release fork to equalizer spring. Upper clutch equalizer to firewall, 289 and 302 engines. This unit will also work for 1969-70 Cougar and has the correct spring hook orientation. 66 - 68 Ford specs: 3-1/16" Long 40 Coils 69 - 70 Ford specs: 3-1/8" Long 36 Coils Replaces Ford part #: C3DZ-7523.
