    Description

We suggest using white lithium grease or petroleum jelly to ensure the seal will not stick to the shift lever. Fits 1969-73 Mercury Cougar and Ford Mustang, additionally it also fits 1971+ Maverick and Comet with floor shift automatic only.  If you have any side-to-side play in the shifter, this seal will not last. We do have the shifter bushings available.

    Replaces Ford part  numbers C9ZZ-7D351-A & D1ZZ-7D351-A.

    Pros:
    • Fills some of the gap
    Cons:
    • Not a complete seal like the original
I was a bit disappointed in this repro. I'd replaced this seal on two previous 69's I owned, and both had rubber that met in the middle to form a complete seal like the factory piece. This one has about 1/8" gap down the middle, which to me somewhat defeats the purpose of preventing a loose coin dropping down into the shifter mechanism. I'll likely replace this again when I find something more correct.

I had to order a replacement of my original because I tore the rubber in my many removals and re-installations of the Shifter top, working on the Air Conditioning controls and aftermarket radio. otherwise a good product! be careful working around it slipping it on & off the Shifter.

Seal was nice and easy to install. Put plenty of lubricant on to it would slide smoothly. After two months it tore apart. Very weak and cheap product.

I bought my 69 Cougar in Jul of '09 as a retirement from the Army gift to myself. From day 1 it had intermittent heating problems that I tried to fix. I changed the radiator, thermostat, water pump, and added 2 12 in 1400 cfm electric cooling...
