This is a good used pit free part (at least in the area that shows from beneath your pad) that still has the rear clip in place. You will see this same part in Mustang catalogs for $125.00. The only difference between Mustang and Cougar is that the Cougar has holes drilled in it for the pad that lays on top of it. Not for use with the 1968 standard console.

If your automatic floor shifter has play in it left to right then this is the culprit. Easy to install, (more difficult if you have a 67-68 with center console) these are made from a wear resistant plastic that is better than original. Sold as a pair as two are required per car. Allen head set screw for all stock Ford automatic shifter handles on any 1967-73 Mercury Cougar or Ford including Mustang. Uses the same 3/32 inch allen wrench for attaching as the originals. Most handles take two of these set screws, one on the dummy button, and one to attach to the top of the shifter lever. The 1973 all chrome shift handle only uses one of these set screws.
