1967 - 1970 Manual or Power Steering OEM factory conversion tips.

The drag links, pitman arms, and idler arms are all specific to manual or power steering suspension systems. Meaning that these three components need to be changed together during a conversion. Another thing to consider, the factory installed 20:1 steering boxes into cars with manual steering. Cougars and Mustangs with the Competition Handling package (sometimes called Improved Performance Option) received the 16:1 ratio steering box which is the same as all 1967-70 cars with factory power steering. On manual steer cars, the 20:1 ratio box requires much less effort to turn the steering wheel, but requires 4-5/8 turns 'lock to lock'. The 16:1 ratio steering box requires considerable more effort but requires only 3-3/4 turns of the wheel - 'lock to lock'.

Very limited quantities, we offer core grade suspension parts for those car owners that wish to avoid reproduction parts. Typically this manual steering, idler arm would have had a pink...

Rebuilt steering gear box with 16:1 ratio and 1-1/8 inch sector shaft. The only difference between SMB-F or SMB-K is the tag and inclusion of the Pitman arm. This is a SMB-F tagged steering box.To be honest, we will seldom have this steering box in stock. We recommend that you purchase the SMB-K steering box, and exchange your SMB-F steering box tag. Return the core steering box with the SMB-K tag back to WCCC. We are building up our inventory of SMB-K steering boxes, so ask for a date...

Our grade "B" rods are just as straight as our grade "A" used rods but the will show pock marks from rust after you clean them. One can fill and sand but it will take time. These are still a better value than the Chinese rods we sell.*Note - 1970-73 strut rods work equally well.
