This crucial piece of linkage is used to activate the passing gear under sudden and heavy acceleration. The correct application is crucial to clear the different firewalls and other transmission linkage parts.

*NOTE*
We recommend when installing a kick down rod that the correct retaining clips be used on the carburetor and transmission to retain the kick down rod. After installation of the rod, check for smooth movement without any binding throughout the full throttle range BEFORE STARTING UP THE ENGINE AND/OR DRIVING the car. Some minor adjusting may be necessary to obtain smooth, unbinding movement. TO ADJUST THE KICK DOWN ROD: ENGINE NOT RUNNING
1) Disconnect the throttle and down shift return springs and disconnect kick down rod from the accelerator shaft kick down lever.
2) With the choke fully open and the throttle blocked in the wide open position, rotate down shift lever on the transmission fully counterclockwise to place it against the throw detent stop (or in other words, in the "kickdown position").
3) Turn the adjusting screw on the carburetor kick down lever to obtain a clearance of .040" to .080" between the throttle lever and the kick down lever when the rod bushing hole lines up with the lever mounting stud. Reconnect kick down rod to lever and install "E" clip retainer on the stud.

This rod is correct for the 351 Cleveland 2V only and is approximately 27". A red paint daub was found on this rod, by trying to expose it with steel wool, it was almost erased.
