1967 - 1970 Manual or power steering OEM factory conversion tips.
The drag links, pitman arms, and idler arms are all specific to manual or power steering suspension systems. Meaning that these three components need to be changed together during a conversion. Another thing to consider, the factory installed 20:1 steering boxes into cars with manual steering. Cougars and Mustangs with the Competition Handling package (sometimes called Improved Performance Option) received the 16:1 ratio steering box which is the same as all 1967-70 cars with factory power steering. On manual steer cars, the 20:1 ratio box requires much less effort to turn the steering wheel, but requires 4-5/8 turns 'lock to lock'. The 16:1 ratio steering box requires considerable more effort but requires only 3-3/4 turns of the wheel - 'lock to lock'.
Unique for the 1969 351 Windsor engines without air conditioning. Flat steel bar stock spacer that positions the power steering pump a measured distance away from the cylinder head. The bars are 3-3/8" x 3/4" x 1/2" in size. The threaded hole in the center is tapped 3/8-16. The two outer holes for attaching to the cylinder head are 11/33" holes on a 2-9/16 inch center. Verify the pre-tapped holes in your cylinder head if making your own spacer. For 1970, a round spacer was used, as could be...

Of the three brackets this appears to be the hardest to obtain. This bracket can only be used in conjunction with the new for 1970, all steel pump mounting bracket. 1970 Boss 302 and 351 Cleveland...

This is the large nut control valve that Ford switched to after 1967. Many 1967 Cougars have been converted to the 1968 valve over the years so you may want to double check your valve before ordering. We highly recommend upgrading to this large nut (5/16") control valve as the small nut control valve posses a potential safety issue, thus the reason why Ford replaced it the following year. The small nut system was engineered dangerously close to the maximum psi tolerances of the crimp...
This unit was used only one year on the Cougar and is unique because of its smaller fitting (1/4") for the pressure hose. We highly recommend upgrading to the large nut (5/16") control valve as the small nut control valve posses a potential safety issue, thus the reason why Ford replaced it the following year. Reproduction power steering drop bracket for the Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang.
Installation of this bracket is easy but you will have to make a spacer to fit on the outside of the frame rail. Hopefully you bought this bracket first before you tore out the nut inserts in the frame. If not you will need to get them up for now. Then tap the bracket toward the the outside of the car and make sure the cross bolt lines up. Then measure the gap and make a spacer to fit. A half inch nut and a couple of washers usually work just fine. It's not necessary to get fancy with this...

This Pump to Value Outlet Pressure Hose is 100% correct for the 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970 big block. This hose has industrial high pressure fittings that are much higher quality than those available by most Mustang / Cougar Parts Dealers. Replaces Ford Part #: C9OZ-3A319-C.
This Pump to Value Outlet Pressure Hose is 100% correct for the 1969 small block, and will work for the 1967 or 1968 with the 5/16 inch control valve fitting if the power steering hoses are routed the same as on the big block engines. The big block routing is far superior to the original routing as the original routing was susceptible to rubbing against the exhaust manifold. This hose has industrial high pressure fittings that are much higher quality than those available by most Mustang /...

This hose is the hose most Mustang / Cougar parts vendors offer. It is a rubber flex hose with economy fittings. Two required per vehicle, sold individually. We do not recommend these hoses and can not stand behind them as they often will leak if not torqued to the proper specs. Use caution when tightening these down as they are susceptible to stripping if you torque them to the specs called for by FORD. Replaces Ford Part #: C6OZ-3A714-A or C6OZ-3A717-A. ...
