My Cougar did not have any cracks in the shock towers when I purchased it recently, but after reading the BOSS 302 Chassis Modification booklet, reading some forum postings, watching Don’s video, and knowing how I plan to drive the car, I decided to put these plates in. (I might also put some in my ‘73 Mach I now too)
These fit the shock towers just right after cleaning all the undercoat out of the way and exposing the bare metal to weld to. They are 11 gauge and very sturdy. I did a stitch weld to help prevent warping and then went back and filled in all the leftovers areas to create one continuous bead. Once finished I topped it with a spray of light undercoat. I’m also adding an export brace and Monte Carlo bar which were not on the car to start with.
I’m looking forward to carving some nice corners once I’ve have it all done.
