Used trunk plate or bracket for mounting the "J" bolt for the spare tire. Several versions of this bracket, this is the most common one. Mounts flat to the trunk floor surface on all 1967-70 Mercury Cougar hard tops, with full sized spare tires. Additionally, 1971-73 Mercury Cougar convertibles. We cut these out of the trunk floors, so there will be some metal preparation for the customer. Ford part number C7AZ-6247076-A.

This is an OEM original with 3/8"-16 threads. Overall length according to the MPC is 9 inches, with 3-1/4 inches being threaded but we have found almost without fail, the actual length is 8" with 3 1/4" of threads. We also carry the OEM hold down wing nut or spinner nut Mercury Cougar part number B9AZ-1462-A. Additionally, look for the wheel centering plate or disc, part number C5ZZ-1424-A. For all 1968 Cougar trunks to mount the spare tire. Total length according to the MPC is 9.75 inches, with 4 inches of threads on the end. We have found that the overall length is 8 inches with 3-1/4 inches of threads. Basically the same J- bolt as found on 1967 Mercury Cougars but with the thicker, 1/2-13 threads. As we research more we will post our results here. Would love to get specs on J-bolts from those of you with low mile and very original cars.

For all 1969 Mercury Cougar trunks. The MPC lists the correct length as 8-3/4 inches in total length, with 4 inches of the end being threaded but we have found without fail them to be about 10 3/4" with about 3" of threads. I say "about because some have a blunt end while other versions have a tappered end which will add about 1/8" to the length. Those threads are 1/2-13.

According to the MPC 1970 primarily, a few 1971-1973's. If you have a hardtop or coupe, (VIN numbers starting with either 0F91 or 0F93) and standard wheels with hub caps. Or, any 1971 - 1973 with style steel wheels. Total length is 6-1/4 inches, with 4 inches being threaded. Threads 1/2-13. We find this bolt to only have 2 1/2" of threads. 1971 - 1973 Mercury Cougar hard tops and coupes with regular steel wheels and hub caps. J bolt total length listed in MPC is 8-3/4 inches, with 6-1/2 inches threaded on the straight end but we find the actual length to be 10" long with about 4" of threads. We also see this used with the 1971 - 1973 Kelsey Hayes Styled Steel wheel even though the MPC lists another size. There are absolutley to absolutes when it comes to items like these and what Ford "may" have called for. Would love to hear...

Good grade A used jack with correct fine threads. The most common jack as identified by the fine threads. This version was made by several suppliers, and may have slight variations from the picture. Some have date codes and some do not. Grade A will not have rust or damage.

Spare Tire Mount Wing Nut Reproduction for the 1968 through 1973 Mercury Cougar / Ford Mustang

For 1968 Ford standardized or changed all of the J-bolt threads to the beefier 1/2"-13. We have noted two variations of this wing nut. The most obvious identifier between the two is the tabs in the center. The majority have these tabs present, the minority do not. We also stock and carry the correct disc or hold down plate, and the J bolt. Lots of sizes and lengths for those. Do you have the correct one?

Factory spare tire hold down bolt for 1969-70 Mercury Cougar convertibles with style steel wheels. Note the felt and jack placement. Overall length 12-1/4 inches. As always, the threads are 1/2"-13.

Unique to 1970 convertible only. Only with stock steel wheels and hubcaps. J bolt MPC lists the length as 6-1/4 inches, with 4 inches on the end threaded but actually there are only 2 1/2" on the threads. Threads 1/2-13.

Reproduction scissor jack for any year Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang. This is a cheap Chinese jack that is clearly marked "For Display Use Only, Not for Lifting Vehicles". It resembles an original scissors jack, but there are several differences. It functions properly and will lift weight, but we wouldn't use it on any of our personal cars. This is the ACME brand like used by Wile E Coyote.

Nice unused space saver spare tire for a Ford. Vintage Good Year brand tire with size F78-14. BF Goodrich is another common brand of tire installed for use with unique storage location, hold down, and inflation bottle. This one does not appear to have been inflated or used on the road. Still has the nubs on the face of the tire as shown.
