These valve covers no longer come with the word "Cougar", only the walking cat. Before these high quality reproductions were reproduced original pairs often traded hands for $400-600. This pair is better quality than the originals in every way. They will allow for roller tip rockers (unlike originals) have better quality casting characteristics and are made from better material. These were standard on every 1968 302 XR7-G and an over the counter option for any 289 302 or 351 Windsor equipped...
Same as our crinkle finished Mercury Cougar valve covers but with a polished finish. These are rarely in stock so do not be surprised if our system will not let you order. We get these from Scott Drake and the only reason they polish a few sets a year is when they find a set of black covers that have a defect, they send them in to be polished. So... The only time we have these in stock is when they find blems to polish. Please do not ask us when we expect to get more in, we have no idea when...
Originally this style of Mercury Cougar cast aluminum valve cover was only available for the FE and small block engines but due to customer demand we have these "custom" rocker covers for those of you with a 351 Cleveland, 351M, 400M, 429 or BOSS 302 equipped Cougar. The cast aluminum valve covers have a much thicker flange than stock valve covers, so the stock bolts will not work. You will need to purchase a set of longer stemmed valve cover bolts with these, as they are not...
These are quality reproductions of the aluminum valve covers used on the XR7-G (except HERTZ models) or as an optional over the counter upgrade for any FE equipped big block Cougar. Your S tube and snorkel used on 1968-70 models will have to be changed to clear the pent roof design properly. We will have the correct FE XR7-G 1968 snorkel listed here soon.
