Often when your fuel gauge is acting up, this is the culprit, not the gauge or sending unit. The benefit of using this foam float, is that sometimes the hollow brass float will leak, causing a bad reading. This foam version of the float is fuel resistant and will never leak. This part is installed on all XR7 fuel sending units and Cougars and Mustangs with the optional Convenience Control Package. Low quality off shore part that requires soldering to your fuel sending unit. This is a temperature sensing device that activates when the fuel level drops enough to expose the unit at which point the circuit is closed and the low fuel light comes on. Commonly referred to as a Thermister / Thermistor / Low Fuel Sending Unit.
