    4 Cougar / 4 Mustang Applications

    Description

Scott Drake used the original Ford prints to makes these exactly as the originals with heavier gauge steel than the other reproductions we have seen. Unlike the reproductions of the past, these actually fit without the need for modification or the need to jump on the front of the car to install. They are the best braces on the market today by far... Greatly reduces twisting of the chassis. Also strengthens the front end and helps reduce shock tower fatigue and cracking. Also available in Black and Chrome Finish. Does not come with hardware.

    Replaces Ford Part # C5ZZ-16A052.

*TRIVIA* These are called "Export Braces" because all Mustangs and Cougars exported to Europe were required to have them. They were standard issue on all Shelby's and an over the counter item for Cougars and Mustangs not equipped from the factory with them.

I just spent an hour installing my new Satin Silver Premium Export Brace from West Coast Classic Cougar. I picked it while at the 2018 WCCC Open House. I watch a couple of videos and was worried that the bolts might not line up and that I would have to rent a hydraulic portable ram to spread the shock towers apart. Luckily, I was only off by about ½ inch and was able to stick a metal rod in one of the holes at the top of the brace and adjust the export brace just enough to pop it down onto the bolts on the remaining side. Only had to use a socket wrench with three different sizes of sockets and a wrench for the brass nuts under the engine compartment lip. I didn't even have to take the hood off, although it would have made the process easier. I'm very happy with the results.

This part is built to Ford specs, which means it would have dropped down onto the bolts easily if you car was brand new. But with a 50 year old car, things have moved around. You may need to use a hydrolic portable ram to spread the engine compartment enought to get the brace to fall onto the bolts.

Overall, I am very happy with the new export brace and the car drives quite nicely. It isn't quite so loosy goosy on the cornering anymore. I like it a lot.

My 1971 Cougar XR7 was retrofitted with a Ford “400”, Edelbrock intake and 4 barrel carb, TCI Street Fighter trans, B & M Hammer shifter, and dual turbo exhaust. While this sounds interesting, the Cougar itself was seriously neglected and...
