    Description

Scott Drake used the original Ford prints to makes these exactly as the originals with heavier gauge steel than the other reproductions we have seen. Unlike the reproductions of the past, these actually fit without the need for modification or the need to jump on the front of the car to install. They are the best braces on the market today by far... Greatly reduces twisting of the chassis. Also strengthens the front end and helps reduce shock tower fatigue and cracking. Also available in Black and Satin Chrome Finish. Does not come with hardware.

    Replaces Ford Part # C5ZZ-16A052.

*TRIVIA* These are called "Export Braces" because all Mustangs and Cougars exported to Europe were required to have them. They were standard issue on all Shelby's and an over the counter item for Cougars and Mustangs not equipped from the factory with them.

I purchased the chrome export brace from west coast cougars for my 67. My engine compartment already has a lot of chrome so that's why I went with the chrome instead of the black. I am happy with the chrome but I did have to order chrome shock caps as well to make it look good. In hindsight I think if I could go back I would listen to Dons suggestion to go with black. That being said I still think the chrome looks nice and more importantly it functions excellent. Paired with the backseat to trunk divider my cars suspension has improved significantly. The installation took me about 1 hour with some of that time polishing the bolts. It fit right into place without to much maneuvering. Very pleased overall with this brace.

I placed this on my 1967 cat. It does not fit perfectly on my cowl so I need to end the lip of the cowl to make it fit flush. Looks great though.

Well made piece much better than the original or the cheap repro models. Buy it and just feel the heavy feel and quality of the manufacturing.

Bought one of these Chrome Braces last year from WCCC and was warned that perhaps most cougars would need a little help getting these installed as old shock towers would bend in over time. However, once I got home and removed the old stock braces I found this Chrome Export Brace to be a perfect fit. My Cat was straight and never abused, so I can confirm these braces are a perfect fit. 20 minute install time (including removal of old braces).

The best part about these braces, besides their looks is the amount of stability they add to the front end of the car. When cornering hard they prove to tighten up the front end allot. If I had to rate them on a scale of 1-100%, I would say they add about 20% to the car's overall rigidity. A great product for any 67-70 owner to add to their cars.

Note, I scored these braces a 3 out of 5 for correctness as they were not offered on original 67 or 68 north American model cougars. They are simply an upgrade from the original braces that are junk.

    Question
    Asked:
Bolts do not line up on shocker tower, I'm off about 1/2. Are my shock towers bent in?
    September 1, 2024 2:39 PM
    Answer
That is the main reason people install these braces, because after years of bearing the the weight of the engine, the shock towers will begin to sag inward. You'll need to use a porta power to spread them apart enough to line up the brace.
