    Description

New LED dash light kit for the gauges in your Mercury Cougar. Finally, a kit that will provide you the light you need to see your gauges! Not only are these LED lights 8 times brighter than stock, but they will also provide a true factory color.

This kit will require o-ring installation to make the LEDS fit correctly. The rest of the installation is easy. Please do look at our diffusers listings in blue, red or yellow for that stand out custom color you have been looking for.

NOTE: THESE LED'S ARE NOT DIMMABLE.

*Caution for 1968 owners* Do not use the two green turn signal indicator bulbs with the stock K8/K9 relays. A huge voltage spike happens when the bulb is flashed. Consider purchasing the 1968 K-8/K-9 modern sequential relay box to safely use the green bulbs.

XR-7 owners: You will also need these two extra bulbs for your clock.

I installed my old incandescent bulbs to make sure dimmer works...it does. The LED's do not dim, they stay bright until voltage drops low enough for them to turn off.

    Pros:
    • Nice and bright
    Cons:
    • Can't dim my dash lights

I'm very pleased, overall. As with all things Cougar under the dash, it was a bit of a struggle, but no more so than if I were replacing filament bulbs. I can now see my instruments with ease.

On the downside, I can't dim my dash lights using the headlight switch. Even my add-on AutoMeter voltmeter and temperature gauges (not mounted in the dash) no longer dim.

    WCCC Response:

You should be able to dim. Post this at classiccougarcommunity.com and the community can walk you through diagnosing it.

I recommend doing the white paint step while you've got the dash apart. I tried it both ways and painting both the housing and backing really made everything pop to life. I replaced the diffusers as well and the dash lighting has never looked so good, likely better than it was from the showroom. LED's are of course not "original" but who cares when it looks this good! Only caution is to be careful when removing the wiring harness. I accidentally caused an internal "break" of the temp and fuel gauge power wire. I opted to just replace the harness over repairing the original.

    I love this upgrade

Very bright gauges now easy install - follow the directions on cutting the springs
Bonus----if you have a "Custom Auto Sounds" radio like I do, the Dash lights will now match the radio.
