    This is used on cars equipped with factory A/C to stop the flow of warm coolant when the A/C is on. Not an exact replacement, but it will work just fine.

    These valves are normally set to open.  This is a good quality reproduction of the service replacement part used on many FoMoCo models throughout the 1970s. Notice it has a plastic body, origin production line parts featured a brass body.

    Is this valve normally open or normally closed, where 'normal' is the state in which there is no vacuum applied to it, such as when the engine is off or when the heat lever is not on full cold (e.g., when on full cold, vacuum closes the valve and stops the flow)?

    If the heater is off, it is normal to be closed.
