    Description

This listing is for a premium quality pair of 1968 - 1969 original strut rods in grade "A" used condition. What sets them apart from our grade "B" rods is they have a smooth finish, no pock marks from rust. This is for the person who is doing a show car and wants the very best, original correct parts that can be found. The reproductions are made in China and work fine but they are different on every detail and do not come with the specialty bolts that attach the rear on the arm to the lower control arm. The hardware included with the Chinese parts is not even close to original. The most noticeable thing that is incorrect with the Chinese version is they do not have the second set of threads at the end for the castle nut. This set is available with or without good used mounting hardware. These come as taken from a dry Western parts car, we do not sand blast them. The used rods shown were cleaned to display the condition. Hardware sold separately(See related items).

This icon means that we're looking to buy this part!

WCCC is a buyer of used and NOS hard to find 67-73 Mercury Cougar parts. Usually we give an in store credit of 50% of our web price for parts delivered in hand or by carrier to our Brooks, Oregon location. If you're not interested in store credit, just shoot us an email and we will let you know if it's is something we can pay cash for. We do not send cash for parts in advance but we often can compensate you within hours of receiving the goods.

Sometimes a 50% wholesale bid will not be enough to entice you to sell. It never hurts to ask if we can up our bid! If it is an in demand item that we have requests for we often can pay more. Just email us if you have questions or want to share pictures.

*Note - 1970-73 strut rods work equally well.

Here is a typical set of used hardware you would expect to receive if you opted for it.  Notice they are unique and of course a high grade.

The Mercury Master Parts catalog gives these numbers as service replacement parts for 68-73; Right hand C8OZ-3468-A Left Hand C9ZZ-3468-D, 1970 - 1973 Right hand C9ZZ-3468-C. keep in mind the dealership was not intending to keep your car 100% correct but rather to get a part on the car that would "do the job".

While helpful, the originals were never stamped with a R or L.

Notice the height difference as well as the contour.

The Chinese example does not have the threaded tapered end.  It is marketed as a 68-73 but it really has more in common with the 70-73.

The Chinese fasteners are the black ones.

Here is what you can expect with grade "B" versus grade "A".

I bought my 69 Cougar in Jul of '09 as a retirement from the Army gift to myself. From day 1 it had intermittent heating problems that I tried to fix. I changed the radiator, thermostat, water pump, and added 2 12 in 1400 cfm electric cooling...

I have been a cougar owner for just shy of 30 years, I have been dealing with part problems for a very long time. The people at WCCC have always be honest, and overly helpfull. I now have a 1970 XR-7 mostly rebuilt, and my son has a 1968 base...
