These two piece adhesive XR7-G emblems are made by the OEM supplier to Ford. As you compare these to the now obsolete version supplied through Ford back in the day, you will see these are nowhere close to the original version. Great quality for the money, but you will have a gap showing around the perimeter. When looking at the backside of these XR7-G emblems, you will see the green vinyl backing on the two sided tape. We recently unearthed a few of these unused club decals from the 1980's. "Cougars Northwest" was one of the earliest Cougar Clubs in the country. It folded back in 1988. Ford offered the 1973 Mercury Cougar hood emblem in two versions as a service replacement part. It is very rare to find them new in the box with the chrome center hood moulding, usually they are found without the chrome. This was found at the Spring 2007 Ford Carlisle show. Set of 5 reproduction firewall inspection decals. During final inspection, these decals where placed in different locations on the firewall / cowl area and one P decal between the weatherstrip and dash pad inside the drivers door jam. This decal set has the assembly line inspectors names stamped on them. These decals would have been used on cars equipped with Boss 302 and BOSS 429 engines.

Due to the fact these were glued on, they are often missing. Separate "XR" and "7", Grade B used, good for a daily driver. We often get asked about where to place 69-70 XR7 and Cougar adhesive emblems. Based on personal experience and pictures from the original Ford archives the answer would be "Pretty much wherever you think looks best". This was an adhesive emblem and has long since fallen off most cars or was removed when the car was painted. This Mercury script emblem is mounted onto the driver side fender extension. This is an original part still in the Ford box, engineering number on the back of the emblem reads C7WB-16098-A, Ford part number is C7WY-16604-A.

This adhesive plaque was placed in front of the shifter on XR7-G models with a factory installed four speed manual transmission. The XR7-G shift knob had a walking Cat on the face of the knob instead of a shift pattern.

This version of the emblem was actually used on early 70's full-size Mercurys, and is almost identical to the 1969-70 version used on Cougars. In order to use it on a Cougar fuel door, the studs on the back will need to be trimmed down The only visible difference is the thinner / more numerous ridge lines in the red crest area than on the Cougar version. These fuel door Mercury crest emblems are a close to original reproduction. They are an economical alternative to brighten up the looks of the rear of your 1969 - 1970 Cougar. This crest was used on all models except the 1970 Eliminator. To remove your emblem we suggest grinding down the studs on the backside. To install the reproduction emblem you will need the 26120 trim clip.

Faded but good used emblem with aluminum foil background. If you push on the swedged aluminum studs from the backside these will easily remove. The standard grill emblem with a walking cat uses the same stud configuration as XR7 so you can exchange emblems from one to another.

This is a very nice reproduction that we have all needed for many years! You might want to buy a new Cougar walking cat emblem if you replace this background decal as it requires breaking the studs off your old emblem to get it off. Rare Cougar only GT emblems. The Mustang GT emblems had different stud locations. These were used on 1968 Mercury Cougar GT models.  This emblem shares the exact same pin locations with the 1968 6.5Litre emblem, so the factory could punch holes and installed the tubular nuts in the fenders of all S and X code Cougars, allowing either emblem to be installed. Good used center with no crack, missing paint or broken mounting tabs. This was used on all 1969 Cougars with a three spoke wheel except the XR7.

We can pretty much guarantee one if not both of the two mounting studs will be broken but because of the way it fits into the recess of the steering wheel pad, gluing it into place is not a problem. We rarely have an emblem this nice in stock for more than a few weeks of any one year as the tail was prone to breaking off as well as the "cats" other limbs. This is one of the smallest "Cougar" emblems ever put on a Mercury Cougar. Only the 70-73 two spoke cat and xr7-G shift handle Cougar was smaller. It is also the most delicate! Very unusual to find the tail and all limbs intact on this fragile little kitty. Silver spray paint will make this cat look new again, they did not have a chrome finish from the factory. Now that we have reproduced this emblem there is little incentive to purchase this over-priced used emblem.
