Description

This reproduction brake booster looks and fits more like the originals than any other on the market. This is an off-shore unit, but of the many out there, it is the only one we feel you can consistently get 10 or more years out of. It comes with a 3 year warranty and no core exchange is required. If you do have a decent original core (any version 1967 - 1970 Midland or Bendix brand), we can credit you towards this unit up to $120.

NOTE* This reproduction booster uses metric fasteners

If you would like to purchase this new unit, there is no core charge, but if you happen to have 67-70 Midland or Bendix booster and would like to send it in, we can give up to $100 as an in store credit. Even if your booster is damaged or is missing parts, we can still give partial core credit. We will also send you a call tag (prepaid shipping label) via UPS (US customers only) to bring your old booster in.

Brake booster Bendix style repro 1967 - 1969 Cougar

Not recommended, unit is now in and working but ran into a few fitment problems.
- Had to slot out mounting bolt on firewall side to allow bolt installation.
- Had to enlarge opening in firewall slightly to allow fit.
- Had to build a spacer for the brake light switch so it would work properly.
- Vacuum fitting is in a location that interferes with the master cylinder cap clip, had to turn clip.
- Had to adjust pushrod to master cylinder length was approximately 1/4” gap, brake pedal still a bit low but may be another problem.
Working OK so far but should have gone with rebuilt unit.

Brake Booster / Master Cylinder - Disc - Power Brake - PREMIUM - Reproduction. I purchased this item to correct all the wrongs that i am finding on my 68 Mercury Cougar. I had noticed that i have a Factory PB, PS, AC Cougar and someone installed a 1972 Chinese power Booster on it. 1967 Cougar with Factory Power Drum Brakes

This brake booster works well but requires considerable modifications to make it fit. Plan on dedicating half a day to it. Make sure you have new nuts because studs are different size than the original.
1. The eyelet for brake pedal does not fit. See pic below.
2. The dust filter between the master cylinder and the booster does not fit. See pic below.
Do not purchase if you cannot make the modifications to make it work. I was going to send my Bendix booster back for credit but decided to keep it and get a rebuild kit for it. In the meantime this cheaper booster is working good.

68 Base Model Cougar

So, I had the same experience with the fella with the review above this one. Connecting end to brake pedal was not correct. Hole was not large enough, therefore not giving enough slack to install plastic sleeve and have movement for slack to activate brake switch. Also, had to be ground down quite a bit to get the brake switch to fit. I should have spent the extra money, including a core charge for a unit I was not replacing but adding, to have the correct fit. We ended up not finding any of this out until everything was installed except the new switch and had to take it all apart, including the master cylinder to work on getting things to fit correctly. For what I thought I was saving on the part, I spent that and then some having my mechanic put that extra time into making it work. Definitely would suggest getting a rebuilt original midland instead and plan on doing that WHEN this one dies. Final FYI, if you are using this on a 67 or 68, you will need to remove the supplied spacer that is bolted to the unit. Guessing 69 or higher is slightly different.

Cheap Chinese knock off action for sure.

Brake Booster Works Well but Needs Modifications to Be Usefull

The brake booster is not US made. After I had installed it the first time, I could not get the brake light switch on and realized that the eye inside that car was substantially wider at the back than the old unit. I then had to uninstall the brake booster and the master brake cylinder, get the grinder and the micrometer out to get its proportions closer to those of the old unit. I also noticed that the eye inside the car was a tight fit for the plastic piece that goes inside it. At the time I didn't realize what that meant and installed the brake booster and master cylinder again. Now I could get the brake light switch on, but I could not get the brake lights to work. I tried bending the tab of the switch only to find the brake lights on all the time or not at all. It turned out that there is supposed to be enough give that the switch will be moved and activated. Not wanting to uninstall the booster and master cylinder one more time, I took the plastic spacer out and now it all works. I will keep the plastic spacer in a safe place and reinstall it, when this brake booster dies. When I had the brake booster out, I should have enlarged the eye of the new unit to be the same as the old unit.

I should have been patient and had the old unit rebuilt.

We had several of both the 69 and 70 on the shelf and after receiving your message we opened each one and found them to be the correct size. Not sure what went south with your unit but we will continue to monitor stock as it comes in.
