Core grade headlight door actuator for your Mercury Cougar that will need rebuilding (servicing the seal). One canister per car.
Ford part # C9WY-13A167-A.
*NOTE* These actuators are prone to failure in two common areas. The first being the small circular upper shaft seal. Often the reason this seal fails is that the "accordion" style dust boot that covers the shaft will fail. This causes contaminants to enter and work as an abrasive between the shaft and seal. When the shaft seal goes bad, you will find your headlights not rising very fast or not at all, in addition you will see your headlight eyelids creep up after turning your car off. One go around for this problem on the 69-70 is to loosen the tension on the horizontal shaft springs by moving the spring from the factory position to the mounting bolts that protrude just under the correct anchor for the springs. Also, the internal diaphragm seal is sometimes prone to failure. This unit is offered at a discount because it will not hold vacuum for an extended period. It will open and close your headlights consistently but you will be running with a slight vacuum leak. These are sold as is, keep in mind if you are returning your core for credit it cannot have broken off nipples or mounting studs, the internal bellows must be intact and it cannot have excessive rust.
