This set of reproduction used knobs is for 1968 Cougar / Mustangs without factory console. The exception to the rule would be the XR7G. Cougars equipped with a console need the longer version of this knob to clear the padded console face. This clip goes on the upper end of your column and keeps your steering shaft from moving around when you pull up on your steering wheel.

Used lower shaft fixed steering column found from 1968-69 Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang. This is the portion that mates with the upper shaft that bolts to the steering coupler. 1968-69 lower shafts are 15-1/2 inches in overall length. They also have a lower flange with flat sides. This white plastic spacer fits into the back of the right hand inner knob on cars without factory fader or balance. If your inner knob is loose and will not align, you will want to see if this part is in place. 1968-70 AM-FM radios would not utilize this part because they have a balance feature. 1967 AM-FM radios would use this part as they did not have a balance feature.
