    4 Cougar / 4 Mustang Applications

    Description

Scott Drake used the original Ford prints to makes these exactly as the originals with heavier gauge steel than the other reproductions we have seen. Unlike the reproductions of the past, these actually fit without the need for modification or the need to jump on the front of the car to install.

These are the best braces on the market today by far... Greatly reduces twisting of the chassis. Also strengthens the front end and helps reduce shock tower fatigue and cracking. Also available in Chrome and Satin Chrome Finish. Does not come with hardware.

    Replaces Ford Part # C5ZZ-16A052.

*TRIVIA* These are called "Export Braces" because all Mustangs and Cougars exported to Europe were required to have them. They were standard issue on all Shelby's and an over-the-counter option for Cougars and Mustangs not equipped from the factory with them.

Installed this high quality export brace when the 1967 Cougar XR7 front end was restored. There were cracks on the shock towers so bracing was needed and the export brace was an easy installation. Definitely strengthens the front end and would highly recommend. I also did a 1 inch front spring drop and welded in the shock tower reinforcement plates while the car was dismantled.

    Pros:
    • Sturdy construction
    Cons:
    • Hit or miss fitment…
I tried one of these on two different low milage 1970 Pony Cars and it was not close to fitting either one. I would have to have spread my shock towers at least half an inch using some brute force method. Then I think to myself, gee if both cars have settled comfortably into this position with new tires and recent front end alignments, why do a I want to change the front end geometry just to fit this one-size-fits-all part? Instead, I decided to buy an export brace that will fit and lock down my front end in its current happy position. I bought Global West’s export brace which is way more substantial and actually fits the car with slotted holes for the shock tower stud attachment. I also don’t believe that if this part does not fit it’s necessarily, or only because your shock towers have settled. I think the allowable manufacturing tolerances are also at play.

Nice product. The main downside is, as mentioned in the part description, this will plainly show just how pretzelled your chassis has gotten over the decades. Will be fitting the car to the part :-)
