    Description

New rear seat to trunk steel divider for your Mercury Cougar. We had this one made specifically for the Mercury Cougar and it is designed to replace the flimsy tar based cardboard factory divider.

We have noticed that after 40 plus years of chassis flex, the welds on the cross braces behind the rear seat tend to be broken. When installed properly behind the rear seat, this 18 gauge steel divider will provide stiffness to the chassis. This divider can be bonded, screwed or welded into your car and will also provide insulation from sound and temperature that seeps in from the trunk.

Check out our video below on suspension and chassis upgrades.

    • Quality Part
    Cons:
    • Expensive shipping
This panel seals off the trunk compartment nicely and adds structural rigidity if you permanently attach it through welds or structual adhesive. The panel will need some trimming because these cars were never built perfect or straight. Make sure you metal prep, prime, and paint both sides before you install it. I used 3M Structural Adhesive to bond the panel in place with screws holding it while the adhesive cured. Make sure you do not apply primer or paint where you are gluing or welding. Nice product!!!

    Pros:
    • Heavy gauge metal
    • Strengthens rear area
    • provides additional sound-deadening
    Cons:
    • Needed slight grinding for install
Although I welded the broken X-brace behind the seat in my 69 Cougar, I still installed one of these. It's made from heavy gauge metal and really helped strengthen that area after install. It did require a small bit of grinding around the upper rear seat hooks, but fit well overall. The additional sound-deadening will make for a much quieter interior as well.

Took a little grinding to fit, but that can be expected since each car is different. Bought this after seeing one of my rear cross braces were separated from the floor, really looking forward to seeing this thing stiffen up the car. Overall really quality steel plate and easy install. I love wccc and plan on buying here for all of my needs.

    Pros:
    • Nice heavy gauge metal.
    Cons:
    • Some trimming to fit.
This is an excellent component and a "must have" for any restoration. Nice gauge metal that arrived well packaged. Took some trimming with a cut-off wheel get to fit, but provides rigidity to the area in addition to deadening sound. I glued on extra insulation to the side facing the trunk and you don't even know the panel is there.

Behind the rear seat. Don actually mentions it at about 11:59 in the video above.

No, this will not work and is not needed on the convertible because the Cougar convertible had a plate installed from the factory.

These are custom cut to fit the Cougar. We have never tried them in a Mustang, but we know the Cougar and Mustang are different.

Why am I being warned about potential exposure to chemicals in motor vehicle parts?

    • Some chemicals in motor vehicle parts are on the Proposition 65 list because they can cause cancer and/or birth defects or other reproductive harm.
    • When purchasing USED or NOS items, we do not know if listed chemicals are present in these products.
