    Description

Don't throw away those panels just because the backing boards are broken and warped! You cannot buy reproduction panels for the 67-70 Mercury Cougar, but you can get this pair of backer boards. If your vinyl is good, then you will want to put the work into them. These are not a quick fix, they do take time to install but the end result is worth it. These will work on your 67-68 XR7, Decor or Standard model as they are cut for all models and all options (i.e. manual remote mirror, courtesy lights).

Now precisely CNC machined with the proper perforated "punch outs" like the factory panels. Made from a much more durable hard board, these should last a lifetime without warping.

*Keep in mind that we no longer have anyone working on our door panels at this time (as previously stated in this video).

These backer boards fit just about perfect. I could not ask for a better fit! One thing I noticed was the courtesy light bolt holes are slightly under sized but would rather have that then over sized. I only had to cut out the remote mirror location on my decor panels and all other locations where already cut out. Everything lined up great even considering my panels have shrunk a bit over the course of 50yrs of sun exposure. Watch the video as it will give you an idea whats in involved with tools, glue and tricks to get a good result. What I did not see used on the video but was very helpful for me was a heat gun used to make the vinyl a little more pliable and easier to work.
Im glad these are available and able to be used to restore the original panels! Another good use for them would be to build custom panels if so desired.

With a good set of vinyl you can transform your door panels to something worth being proud of. Yes, it takes a bit of work but is a darn sight better that staring at panels that are warped, broken and don't fit correctly. The only caveat I will mention about this project is to double check the fitment of the courtesy light studs. After recovering the first panel I realized that the pre-punched holes for the studs that hold the courtesy light were undersized. So much so, that trying to push the studs through cracked the panel slightly. No big deal but on the next panel I will pre-fit the courtesy light and open up the holes as needed to ensure a great fit.
