Often when your fuel gauge is acting up, this is the culprit, not the gauge or sending unit. The problem with these brass floats, is that after year of being in contact with fuel, they will begin to corrode and disintegrate. We suggest going with the new foam floats. This part is installed on all XR7 fuel sending units and Cougars and Mustangs with the optional Convenience Control Package. Low quality off shore part that requires soldering to your fuel sending unit. This is a temperature sensing device that activates when the fuel level drops enough to expose the unit at which point the circuit is closed and the low fuel light comes on. Commonly referred to as a Thermister / Thermistor / Low Fuel Sending Unit.

This actually is a pretty impressive part once installed. It fits snug (very tight) over your existing cracked dash and you affix it by putting silicone around the perimeter. Unlike the 67-70 there is no stitched edge or speaker holes in the 71-3 so it is a perfect candidate for this cover. This panel was used in most of 1972 and all of the 1973 model year and is used in conjunction with cars equipped with rear seat seat belt re-tractors. It will not show serious UV damage with the "chalky look" and will have no extra holes drilled.
