All Available Parts - 1973 Mercury Cougar

This is one of the smallest "Cougar" emblems ever put on a Mercury Cougar. Only the 70-73 two spoke cat and xr7-G shift handle Cougar was smaller. It is also the most delicate! Very unusual to find the tail and all limbs intact on this fragile little kitty. Silver spray paint will make this cat look new again, they did not have a chrome finish from the factory. Now that we have reproduced this emblem there is little incentive to purchase this over-priced used emblem.

Found on the C pillars of a 1971 - 1973 Mercury Cougar XR7 Coupe. We rarely get good used examples of these emblems as they are always badly faded. These mount on the lower part of the roof behind the quarter windows. This part of the roof is also known as the 'C' pillar.

This little emblem was used only on the two spoke steering wheels from 1969 - 1973. We can pretty much guarantee one if not both of the two mounting studs will be broken but because of the way it fits into the recess of the steering wheel pad, gluing it into place is not a problem. We rarely have an emblem this nice in stock for more than a few weeks of any one year as the tail was prone to breaking off as well as the "cats" other limbs. For 1971-73 Mercury Cougars and Ford Mustangs with the 351W engine manufactured after 10-26-1970. This is a Pitts manufactured pulley and clutch assembly with a pulley diameter of 6-5/16", a clutch diameter of 5-1/8", and an overall thickness of 1-11/16 inches. Ford part # D1OA-2981-A. Inside door handle release mechanism for the driver side on base model standard 1972-73 Cougar and Mustang. This latch mechanism went through a couple of revisions by the end of 1973. Ford calls this part a 'control and link assembly', this particular one only works with the base door handles as shown in the photo. Stainless steel throttle pedal surround trim. Self attaching to part number D1ZZ-9735-B. This used part may have some wear, but will not have broken tabs. Fine steel wool really shines these up. It appears that this trim may not have been used all the way through 1973. Ford probably eliminated it as a cost saving measure.

Brightens the engine compartment and looks sharp. Fits our big block finned aluminum valve covers (item# 26018) and others with the round push-in style opening. D2ZZ-5482-A Factory used front sway bar found on most H-code (351-2V engine) Cougars 1971 1972 1973. Originally marked from the factory with 3 Yellow, and 2 Yellow - 1 Red paint marks. The Competition Handling Package was available optionally on any 1971- 1973 Cougar. However, it was standard on both 429CJ engines (J code non-ram air and C code ram air engines) and all 1972 and 1973 351CJ's (Q code engine). You would paint your sway bar chassis black and add 2 Yellow and 1 Green stripes to replicate the factory markings. Good used axle vent nipple or tube. This vent tube screws into the top of the rear axle and is a breather / vent to equalize the pressure inside the axle tube. Fits both 8 inch and 9 inch rear axles. This would be for the non-competition suspension Cougars. U-Bolt length 7 inches, and threads 1-1/4 inch in length. U-Bolts include two (2) correct style attaching nuts 7/16-20 threads. This size of U-bolt seems to be the most common found on Cougars, no matter the leaf pack stack.  Ford part number C7WY-5705-A. 351CJ denoted by a Q in the 5th position of the VIN. All automatic equipped Cobra Jets came with a C6 transmission. Shaft diameter 3-1/2 inches. Length 50-13/32 inches, measured on U-joint centers. Used and 'as balanced' from the factory. Shipping is oversized due to length.

These are the U-shaped brackets that hold the round part of the rear sway bar. These mount to the rear frame rail. All 1970 - 1973 Cougars should have these mounting holes from the factory, 1969 and earlier Cougars do not have these holes. Two clamps needed for installation.

Reproduction locking pawl for the 1970 - 1979 Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang that is equipped with a factory tilt steering column. This vacuum actuated door assembly was used on several performance motors without Ram Air. When extra air was needed under heavy acceleration the vacuum actuator opened the door on the side of the air cleaner base. The actuator on this unit needs to be rebuilt so this is considered a good core only.

As you can see from the photo, they are made (and install) exactly like our Cougar trunk latches, but with the addition of a release tab. These can be installed to use either a cable, vacuum, or solenoid release.

Trunk lock cylinder retainer for all 1973 Mercury Cougars, different retaining configuration from 1971-72 Cougars. The MPC does not show the part number but it is likely D3WY-6543629-A. Mustangs used a different retainer with a Mustang part number.

1971 - 1973 Convertible spare tire mounting, J bolt. MPC lists the total length as 9-1/2 inches long, and 5 inches threaded. Application is for hubcap type wheels only, those of you fortunate to have the style steel wheels need C8OZ-1448-A above.

Also known as the throttle valve, this valve controls vacuum to the transmission as you press the gas pedal, and it will apply higher control pressure for better quality shifts at higher RPMs. Ford part number C4AZ-7A377-B.

Used servo cover from a 1971-73 Ford C-6 transmission. This cover has the big L cast into it, which designates it as an "L" Intermediate Servo Band Cover. Typically, this cover would be found on U code C6's, from 1971-73 Mercury Cougar and Ford Mustangs with H code 351C-2V engines.  Ford casting number C8VP-7D027-C.*Note - Not to be confused with X code FMX transmission which were more common on the H code 351C-2V engines from 1971-73.

This is a grade 'A' used mirror assembly with no UV damage and has had the mirror lens "re-silvered".
