Inside door handle release mechanism for the driver side on base model standard 1972-73 Cougar and Mustang. This latch mechanism went through a couple of revisions by the end of 1973. Ford calls this part a 'control and link assembly', this particular one only works with the base door handles as shown in the photo. The Ford MPC describes those door handles as fitting the door panels with detachable armrests, instead of the molded armrests on the door panels, as found on the XR7 and Decor interiors. This style was used after 9/15/1971. It uses one bolt for attaching and has the heavy duty spring, which is the reason for the first revision. There may be a conflict with the earlier doors that take the two bolt style latch, please compare what you have with what you need. This is a fairly uncommon part for a Cougar. Common and or standard on Full Size Ford and Mercury cars, Mid Size (Torino / Cyclone / Ranchero), and Lincoln MK III.
