This is the correct, original gasket for your 1971-73 Mercury Cougar antenna. Not only is it much thicker than the Ford Mustang gasket, but it also has a different overall geometry to it. According to the Master Parts Catalog (MPC), Early (before Jan 31, 1969) Cougar with a 3.91 or 4.30 rear end and a 4 speed manual would have been equipped with this reducer. Boss 302 and 428 Cobra Jet engines were the only cars that could be ordered with those rear end ratios.
