A = Excellent / Above Average
B = Average / Some flaws / Good to Excellent Driver Quality
C = Obvious flaws / Poor to Average Driver Quality
D, E, F = Worse, Worser, Worsest
Rod used for locking the 3 speed manual
transmission in "Reverse". Connects to the lower tab of the steering column and the reverse control transmission lever shift arm. Prevents the transmission from shifting out of reverse when the ignition key is removed. Rod is about 12 inches long and was originally marked with a purple paint mark.
The 3 speed manual transmission, could be ordered only on "H" code 351-2V engines in 1971 and 1972.

*Trivia - 1972 was the last year that the 3 speed manual transmission could be factory ordered on a Cougar.
