This tube is embedded into the cylinder head making it rather difficult to remove intact. Specific to 1968 302-2V, and 302-4V all with manual transmissions - 3 speed or 4 speed. Same tube both sides, sold singly as a bare tube without installation hardware. This snorkel was found on the 1968 Mercury Cougar and XR7-G models with the 390 or 428 engine and the tall pent roof finned aluminum valve covers. The HERTZ model with the 390 engine used a chrome "Powered By Ford" chrome valve cover and did not need the extra length in the extension. For all 1968 through 1970 R and Q code 428CJ and SCJ air cleaners. Snorkel has the opposite jog than 390GT snorkels. This one jogs towards the rear of the engine. Originally this snorkel should have had an ink stamp of C8OF-9A626-A or -B. Ford MPC number C8OZ-9A626-C.
This is a 1968 only part that is correct for Cougars equipped with the 390 GT "S" code motor. Whether your Cougar has the GT package or not, as long as it has a 4V 390 motor, this is the correct snorkel for your Cougar. The internal dimensions of the opening at the air cleaner base end measure 4 1/8" X 2 3/16", the flange mounting holes measure 5 1/2" on center. The opening for the S tube is 2 3/4". Please keep in mind that our hard to find parts like this are not always competitively priced...
Air cleaner intake assembly or snorkel specific to the one year only 390-2V premium fuel engine, (X code engine). This version has the vacuum operated trap door. There was an more common thermal version that used temperature to open the trap door to the heat stove. In most cases the vacuum valve will not be working. Most people are probably better off with the thermal version. We do not know the change over date. Ford part number C8WY-9A626-A. *Note - This snorkel has a different spacing...
This reproduction cigar / cigarette lighter socket is a good fit and is easy to install. This lighter socket also comes with the retainer. Replaces Ford part # C6ZZ-15055-B.
