worked like the original
The switch looked correct, fit good, and was well made. It just didn't work. I then bought a genuine Motorcraft part and compared them. They were identical. I removed the WCCC part and installed the Motorcraft part and I had brake lights. I can only guess why the WCCC part did not work and quite possibly I installed it incorrectly. As I said they matched up perfectly.
This switch fits the pedal ok and functions just fine and corrected my problem of delayed brake light activation. But the terminals are on the opposite side of the switch from the old one. You can still plug the connector on but it comes really close to rubbing on the clutch stop arm when the clutch pedal is depressed. If you have an auto it would be no problem. I had to zip tie the harness connector wires to prevent an issue.
The switch went in without a problem. After looking at about 3 videos on switch installation, I was sure I had what I needed. The installation took about 25 minutes and went smooth as silk. I made sure to order new bushings too. The brake lights work as they are meant to now.
It went in just like it was supposed to. Now I don't have to press the pedal to the floor to get the brake lights to come on.
The brake lights on my 68 Cougar were coming on late, and we've attempted to fix this issue before by buying switches from parts stores, but none fixed the issue. After learning of West Coast Classic Cougar, I quickly purchased this item. This is a great product that fixed our problem!
They just don't make replacement parts as good as the originals. These parts work, but I think I have gone through 3 of them in 10 years. They just go...no warning. The good part is, I am getting good at replacing these things in well under 5 minutes.
