    Description

This replica tag is of a lower quality than the originals were. The aluminum stock from which this Mercury Cougar A/C tag is made, is about half the thickness of original and the font, instead of being white, is unpainted aluminum. This is a cheap looking, and feeling, part compared to the original. We do have the clip that holds it in place. Check out the product images for an example of factory placement for this tag.

Yes, it's thin; hardly more than aluminum foil. My original was thicker, but still flimsy enough that it would get mauled if you accidentally leaned against it. In fact, it had gotten all wrinkled over the years and just looked ugly. I took the new one and traced it onto some 20-gauge sheet steel. I cut the outline out of the steel in the same shape, but an eighth inch or so smaller at all the edges. Then I drilled out the hole in the right place. I took some epoxy and glued the steel plate to the backside of the new tag. Worked great. Now it feels substantial and weighty and if I accidentally touch it, it won’t bend. And you can’t tell that the backer plate is there without removing it and flipping it over. So, I could work with it. But, yeah, the lettering should be white. Not a super part.

My AC Compressor lost its over the years. I wanted to have something closely resembled the original tag! Top me, your repro came close enough for me! Thank you.

This item is close to original, but not close enough for my taste. Like described, it is very very thin, and feels very cheap. Will bend or crease with little force. My other gripe is that the lettering on this is just an unpainted portion where you could see the silver from the aluminum. The original was painted white.

I would stick with a nice original over this.

Mine came with the hole cut out. This item is on the thin side but shouldn't sustain any damage just sitting there.

As advertised, this tag is thinner than the original and the font is not accurate. The sise is identical to the original. Mine did not have a hole as shown in the picture. I paid a machine shop to stamp out a hole. Overall, it's a nice looking item and it would take an expert to know it is not original.
