    6 Cougar / 6 Mustang Applications

    Description

New reproduction power disc brake master cylinder for the Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang equipped with factory power disc brakes in front and drums in the back.

This unit has a 1" bore and includes a new cap and diaphragm as shown.

Unlike many others you will find, this unit does not need brass line adapters to fit your factory lines, they are correctly sized, will not interfere with your shock tower and ready to bolt on.

Has proper threaded line size for OEM or replacement brake lines, 3/8-24 and 1/2-20.

The main difference between this unit and our premium version is cosmetics, but the premium has a 1" bore as well as a better cap and diaphragm. You can find the premium version of this master cylinder here.

Note that the 1967 - 1969 Midland booster (banded body) requires a spacer between booster and master and the 1969-1973 cars equipped with Bendix booster (crimped together body) does not require a spacer between master and booster.

    Replaces Ford part # C8ZZ-2140-A.

*NOTE* This is the service replacement for the 1967 Power Disc Brake (Ford part # C7ZZ-2140-F) and the 1972 Power Disc Brake before 2/28/72 (Ford part # D2ZZ-2140-A).

    WARNINGS:

Do not attempt to use a 1970 booster on a 1967-69 Cougar as failure will occur within minutes!

Never bleed your brakes on a power brake car with the car running. The pedal will over extend the rod into the booster and break internal parts. This is not covered under warranty.

I will agree with an earlier post that this is not the correct master for disc front and drum rear. I can confirm that it does not have a residual valve for the rear drums and will cause excessive pedal travel. I purchased this in 2020 and have been trying to troubleshoot the excessive travel ever since.

    Pros:
    Cons:
This master cylinder is advertised as being correct for power disc/drum cars, but it does not have a residual pressure valve in the port that feeds the rear brakes. Drum brakes need this residual valve, without it you'll have excessive pedal travel. I ended up ripping this MC off my car and switching to a Raybestos MC36251 which does have the proper residual valve installed.

    Pros:

    Cons:
Bolted right into my '69 with no fitment issues. I did have to loosen the distribution block to start the lines threading into the master cylinder. Another review mention the cap is very tight and it is but it should not leak. Not 100% correct but 100% functional.
