Product Condition Grades
Below is a general description of what the criteria is for our product condition grades. These are generalizations that are intended to give you an idea of the condition of the product at a quick glance. Because different parts degrade at different rates, there are variances in what the letters represent, please see the products description for details about the condition of any particular product.
A = Excellent / Above Average
B = Average / Some flaws / Good to Excellent Driver Quality
C = Obvious flaws / Poor to Average Driver Quality
D, E, F = Worse, Worser, Worsest
1968 - 1970 Manual transmissions, include both 3 speed (390 only) and 4 speed Top Loader transmissions. Ford part number C6OZ-6392-C.
From our research, starting on 2-15-1968 the casting number was changed to C6OA-6394-D. For originality the C60A-6394-D number is correct for 390-4V after 2-15-1968 and all of 1968 - 1970 428 Cobra Jets. Current inventory casting dates: 9A20 and 8C7.
Shipped bare, no hardware or clutch fork.
*Note - Cast iron FE truck bell-housings look similar, but are in fact not compatible. Truck bell-housings are a bit deeper and locate the transmission further back. The input shaft splines will not be fully engaged with the crankshaft. FE bell-housings that will be used with a Toploader must measure 6-1/4 inches, if it measures 6-3/4 inches it is a truck bell, leave it alone.
When in the wilds, look for the cast "Z" adjacent to the casting numbers.
