1967 - 1968 Drip Rail Removal

Scratching your head about the best way to remove the drip rail moulding from a 1967 or 1968 Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang?

Grab a block of wood, something like a 2x4, start at the back of the drip rail moulding where the quarter window is located.  From the inside of the car, position the wood block next to the edge of the trim and tap the block with a hammer to loosen the trim.  Move the block of wood sideways towards the opposite end of the trim until you have loosened it enough to remove it by hand!

You can see this process at 3:55 in our Rusty Roof Video

Easier way is to use a simple "Old School Bottle Cap Opener". It does not get easier than that.

Apply some electrical tape to the flattened metal ( area that would make contact with the bottle cap) leaving the hook part ( that would pry up the cap ) and start at one end and gently pry and move along the length of the drip rail. this removes the drip rail with ease and causes no stress or damage of the drip rail, allowing the drip rail to be reinstalled with greater success.

Been doing this for many years many restorations.
