Finally a fast easy way to hook up the Pertronix Ignitor©! The Ignition Power Relay installs next to the starter solenoid with a supplied self-drilling, self tapping screw. Each wire is the right length and comes with the correctly sized terminal already Installed. Simply connect two wires at the solenoid and connect the Ignitor to the red power wire.

The Pertronix Ignitor© is a 12 volt device that must be powered during crank and run. Many installers mistake the coil positive for a 12 volt power source however there is a resistor wire that drops the voltage here to less than 9 volts. This is the major cause of out right failure as well as rough running and stalling. Using the IPR-Ford solves this problem providing full power to the Ignitor©.

    Installation instructions:

    IGNITOR INSTALL

Remove distributor cap. pull off the rotor.

Remove points and condenser. remove black wire from Coil.  Thread the Ignitor wires through the hole.

Put Ignitor in with one screw. Set the gap.  Put the rotor back on. Put the cap back on.

Attach Ignitor black wire to coil DIST or - terminal.  Leave the Coil BATT or + wire alone.

Put the red bullet connector on the end of the red Ignitor wire, and crimp it securely.

    IGNITION POWER RELAY INSTALL

Remove the cable from the NEGATIVE BATTERY post. Remove the fuse from the relay.

Use your Drill Driver to drive the supplied self drilling self tapping screw under the relay.

Take the screw out and run it through the ring terminal on the black lead and then through the hole on the relay mounting tab.

Unplug the wire from the I terminal on the solenoid.  Slip the ring terminal on the blue lead over the stud and use the supplied thin nut to secure it.

Remove the nut on the BATTERY side of the solenoid.  Slip the ring terminal on the yellow lead over the stud and tighten the nut.

Plus the red ignitor wire into the red relay wire.  Reinstall the battery cable and fuse.

Correction, Pertronix recommends installing a 3 A, 400 V isolation diode on most Ford Voltage Regulators , to prevent voltage from flowing back to the IPR when the ignition switch is turned off. Is this isolation diode necessary and if so is it supplied in the IPR kit?

The circuit diagram on the side of the relay shows a diode in-line with the number 30 connector. I believe that is the required diode.

The IPR on the Pertronix website shows a 3A-400 Ohm diode that's supposed to be installed on the voltage regulator on Ford/Mercury applications. Is this diode supplied in the IPR package?
