    Description

UPDATE 11-19-20: We still do not have the shaft seal dialed in but we are offering this kit with a proven substitute seal until further notice.
This kit will recondition most FoMoCo headlamp actuators built from 1967 into the 70's on most any Thunderbird, Torino, Lincoln, Cyclone or Marquis. The kit will service two actuators even though many cars only come with one center mounted unit. If your actuator holds vacuum on the bottom port but does not hold vacuum (or pressure) on the top port then this kit is what you are after. If your actuator does not hold vacuum when applied to the lower port then your unit will have to be opened midway to replace the large inner bellows and this is impossible to do without specialized tooling.

You can go through the photos above for step by step instructions on how to replace the seal yourself.

NOTE* If you use a vise to hold your actuator while you work on it, do not over tighten because you will crush the can.

Check out this video on how to rebuild your existing headlight vacuum actuators:

Hello! Do you suppose this kit would work on a 1968 Galaxie XL? Thanks in advance

    WCCC Admin Answered:
It likely would, but since we have not tried it, we cannot say for 100% certain. It does work on most (maybe all?) Ford / Mercury Headlight Actuators from 67-70.

Thank you very much for all the knowledge that you share. This was a simple fix. I was able to manage to fix with out taking out the vacuum canisters. Took me 30-45 minutes. would have been nice if correct color zip ties were included. Headlights are working now. Thanks again.

During a headlight bucket refresh, I figured I might as well do the shaft seal while the actuator was out. The video Dan Rush made, details this procedure and it is easy to follow.

    Pros:
    • held real well when I tested
    Cons:
    • shouldn't have 2 sets in '70 kit
not too hard to install grommet. The bottom of the shaft "accordian" is difficult to pinch under the metal tab on the accumulator. Tried gluing it but that didn't hold. Not the fault of the kit.
Why did I have to pay for two sets in the kit when the 70 only has one actuator. WCCC should sell the sets separately.

    Pros:
    • fit was perfect. Watch the video.
    Cons:
    • wire tie not included
These kits are very easy to install. Maybe 15-20 minutes each. I watched your video first and that was a huge help. My vacuum canisters are now ready to use. The only improvement would be to include wire ties. The easiest repair I have made so far.

    Pros:
    • Quality components
    • Excellent U-Tube tutorial
    Cons:
    • No zip tie for boot
To my knowledge, this kit isn't offered anywhere else. Quality components to fix an annoying problem. Although I only have 1 actuator on my 69 Cougar Base Coupe, there are 2 kits provided which allows me the opportunity to rebuild an extra unit I have on the shelf. I'm very grateful for the excellent U-Tube tutorial which shows how to test and rebuild the actuators. Only gripe I have is there isn't a small zip tie provided in the kit to secure the accordion boot.
