Reproduction ignition switch. This is only the electrical side, the mechanical key and lock section is not included. See appropriate shop manual for proper alignment and installation. Follow the instruction in your shop manual for installation and adjustment. Original Ford part number D1AZ-11572-A. Application also for 1971 Lincoln MK III and 1971 Ford Thunderbird. Ford had a service replacement ignition switch with a part number D4DZ-11572-A, that covered all years 1971-74. We have found that 1971-73 years have different colored wires for each year. 1973 version has a longer pigtail, and has a shield or tube covering the wires.

The 1971 ignition switch cannot be used in my 1970 XR7 unit since the switch in my car has the metal holding the switch to the car located at the oposite side of the one for the 71 auto.

That is correct, the 71 version of this switch will not fit the 70. 1970 Has a very specific switch, one year only.

A competitor of yours states that their repro switch requires that the connector be cut-off and the wires be spliced in to the original switch connector plug, does this require that same thing or will it plug directly into the existing plug?
