It is almost impossible to find proper flasher cans for Cougars. The regular ones flash to quickly because they are made for systems that flash far fewer bulbs. This system is out standing it slows the turn signal operation down enough so that each light bulb has a chance to come on before they all shut off together.
The electronic flasher worked great with the solid state turn signal board that I ordered and installed at the same time. It is great knowing the sequential turn signals will be working all the time as designed.
Easy installation and works perfect
Our 69 Cougar convertible had an upgraded unit from the early 80-ties (I assume) and the outer bulbs wouldn´t light up properly, it got a lot better with changing to this unit. Easy fix and invisible
A must-have for the Solid State Tail Light Unit. Quality part with excellent instructions on how to install. Recommend purchasing one also for 4-way flashers.
This fixed my problem of the signals only sequencing when the headlight/parking lights were off. Little tricky to fit in place of the old one but not a problem.
I worked with Richard to find the correct part.
Great product! As described, working great now.
I like this unit as one half of a matched pair. I had several sequencing boxes that didn't work and eventually purchased a new one from WCCC. When paired with the original flasher, the sequencing is too rapid. They also say that on their site. But when paired with this flasher, the sequence is slowed to the appropriate pace. So overall, I like the result. Cons are minimal. First, you must ground this unit with the terminal wire provided. No problem here. I just removed the screw from the mounting clip, connected the ground wire and remounted it. That worked great. The only other item is that you are putting a square peg into a round clip. Again, more of a mental issue here than anything else. It would be nice if it were at least round and fit the mounting clip appropriately. But hey, if you turn the unit diagonally when inserting into the clip ... it still mounts ok and does not come loose. In short, I'd buy it again.
I installed the flasher unit and the taillight sequential unit in my 70 cougar at the same time and now the blinkers work correctly. It takes a bit of effort to replace the flasher and find a good ground due to the location near the radio but its but its worth it.
