    2 Cougar Applications

    Description

Three wire tachometer for 67 - 68 Cougar. Ford wired their early (pre ‘74) tachometers so that they are part of the ignition circuit. What this means is that if the tachometer goes bad, the engine shuts OFF. It also means that you must either replace it with another series type tachometer with 35+ year old circuitry or install a jumper wire to bypass the tach. It also means that you need a special adapter to use your factory tach with an MSD ignition box.

Our three wire tachs are independent of the factory wiring. They connect just like a “regular” tachometer - 12+V, Ground & ignition. They replace your factory tachometer in the gauge cluster and depending on what ignition system you are running, connect directly to your MSD tach port (no more pesky and unreliable $40 MSD tach adapter) or to the distributor side of the coil. Also includes HEI distributors. All tachometers come with a 2 year repair/replace warranty.

$75 core refund when you return your old tachometer, working or not! Please include a copy of your invoice when sending a core to us.

To be honest I was completely daunted by the thought of pulling the dash apart and swapping out this tach for the factory unit. This was my first time attempting something like this. Turns out, with the help of Don’s videos, I was able to install the part in a couple of hours. It was actually pretty easy..again, watch Don’s videos as they’re super helpful! The instructions that come with the tach were on point and helpful. Great product, and support!

I bought my 69 Cougar in Jul of '09 as a retirement from the Army gift to myself. From day 1 it had intermittent heating problems that I tried to fix. I changed the radiator, thermostat, water pump, and added 2 12 in 1400 cfm electric cooling...
