According to the Ford Master Parts Catalog, the cutoff date for this A/C canister was December 1967. Round air conditioning vent registers for all 1967-68 Mercury Cougar and Ford Mustang with factory A/C.

Reproduction factory air conditioning vent register knob. This knob controls the black vent door or valve inside the round registers. These will fit the original axle shafts, but will need to be attached with some super glue or other adhesive. These new knobs fit our reproduction axle shafts that have new splines on them perfectly. Please note the position or orientation of the knob in relation to the position of the internal black plastic butterfly.

This air cleaner assembly never came from the factory on any Cougar, but was an over the counter option available from your Ford dealer.
