    Description

    C8OE-6316-A1 All 1968 Mercury Cougar 302 engines. Includes both the F code 302-2V and the J code 302-4V engines. The 1968 302 harmonic balancer is identified by the 3 bolt holes for attaching the crankshaft pulley. Outside diameter is approximately 6-1/2 inches, and 1-7/8 inches thick. Weighs 8.8 lbs. Ford casting number C8OE-6316-A1 is also an acceptable casting number. Ford part number C8AZ-6316-A. Has the timing marks on rim. Core charge is refundable when rebuildable C8OE-6316-A1 harmonic balancer is received by WCCC.
    Verify that you have a vintage 1968 302 engine, later (starting in 1970) 302 engines utilized a crankshaft pulley with 4 attaching bolts. Crank shaft balancer, crankshaft dampener, harmonic balancer.

    *Note - Two versions of this harmonic balancer, C8OE-6316-A1 and C8OE-6316-A2. Both are correct, the -A2 version is slightly thicker in size.
    *Note - Not for Boss 302 engines.

    This is a picture of a 40 year old piece of rubber removed from a harmonic balancer. Notice how dry and cracked it is. The premium black silicone (high temperature) rubber we use is not affected by even continual heat (up to 400 F.) or engine motor oil. The modern material used in our balancers cost about $200 per gallon and will not look like what you see here 40 years later. [You will want to prevent submersion in solvents or gasoline as this type of rubber will absorb solvents.]

    The little metal staple you see embedded in the rubber below is for anti static purposes, its job is to ground the inner portion of the part to the outer ring. Over the years the low quality metal used is usually deteriorated beyond usefulness.

    Our units have this Beryllium copper spring embedded in them for grounding. This spring boasts 201,000 pounds of tensile strength and will ensure you get no radio static as a result of the balancer.

    Often we can at least offer a partial refund on your core, but we can not give core refunds on cores we can not use and we will not refund any shipping fees paid to ship the cores to us or pay to return the cores to you, if the cores cannot be used. For your sake and ours, please check with us before sending us a core if you are not certain it is rebuildable.

    If you choose to send your cores to us in advance of placing an order or choose "Hold my order for the Cores" when placing an order, and your cores are not rebuildable, you will be required to pay the core charge before we will ship your order.
