This Grade B quality ashtray lid was located at the rear of the console and was used on all 1967 - 1968 Mercury Cougars except the 1967 standard model and the 1968 XR7G. This ashtray differs from other ashtrays you will see on various Ford products in that it has a brushed finish and a slightly taller lower section. Anti rattle pad that hooks onto the top edge of the front bumper brackets. These created a soft cushion to prevent the stone deflector from coming into contact with the bumper bracket. These are the brackets required to mount the optional rear bumper guards. They mount behind the rear valance and are often overlooked when people part out a Cougar. *NOTE* As is often the case, service replacement parts are painted satin black and the originals installed on the assembly line were left natural.
