Nice Heavy duty divider Was going to make my own but I'm glad I did'nt bother. Would have saved some money but would have spent a whole day making a template and cutting, plus, did'nt have the right metal on hand
Required some grinder mods to allow plate to fit properly.
Although I welded the broken X-brace behind the seat in my 69 Cougar, I still installed one of these. It's made from heavy gauge metal and really helped strengthen that area after install. It did require a small bit of grinding around the upper rear seat hooks, but fit well overall. The additional sound-deadening will make for a much quieter interior as well.
This panel seals off the trunk compartment nicely and adds structural rigidity if you permanently attach it through welds or structual adhesive. The panel will need some trimming because these cars were never built perfect or straight. Make sure you metal prep, prime, and paint both sides before you install it. I used 3M Structural Adhesive to bond the panel in place with screws holding it while the adhesive cured. Make sure you do not apply primer or paint where you are gluing or welding. Nice product!!!
Took a little grinding to fit, but that can be expected since each car is different. Bought this after seeing one of my rear cross braces were separated from the floor, really looking forward to seeing this thing stiffen up the car. Overall really quality steel plate and easy install. I love wccc and plan on buying here for all of my needs.
Bad 1) Some small trimming might be required. I have a 70 coupe. I had to make the two top notches about 1/2" deeper, and had to trim about 3/8" off the driver side wheel well cutout. 2) I doubt this will apply to most, but i have a serious sound system in my cat. This cut down on the sub Hz's getting into the cab. Just about 15% though. Good 1) Holy crap does this thing stiffen up the chassis twist. Install Use a sheet of dynomat if possible. I did and it lowers the resonating frequency of the sheet metal substantially. In my opinion a silicon gasket is not required. After cranking down all the self tapping screws, no rattles were heard.
had to take a little off one of the sides but other than that perfect.
After removing the remnants of the old insulation it was apparent the better support and protection was needed. The video was helpful and also suggest that it will provide additional stiffness (can't judge that yet). I did find some broken tack welds on one of the diagonal braces so some reinforcement will help. I made a paper pattern to check fit and locate holes for the attachment screws. The divider panel did need a bit of trimming due to variations in the car. A pneumatic nibbler worked well. I pre-drilled holes in the divider and then put it in place. Drilled the through holes and installed screws. I made some simple clips and hung the new insulation and installed the seat.
This is an excellent component and a "must have" for any restoration. Nice gauge metal that arrived well packaged. Took some trimming with a cut-off wheel get to fit, but provides rigidity to the area in addition to deadening sound. I glued on extra insulation to the side facing the trunk and you don't even know the panel is there.
