Used grade "A" driver side (left hand) grill section for the Mercury Cougar. 1967 is unique from the 1968 grille in a couple of ways, but the most noticeable is the upper mounting tab where it bolts to the grille center. 1968 had a more durable reinforced casting in this area. This grille half has been carefully inspected and found to be free of large cracks, has good chrome with no pits or major scratches and is not severely warped. Hairline cracks will be present in the area of the painted center tabs. It will have a misalignment issue as they all do in the portion on the outer most corner where the eyelid meets the grille. This is caused by the fact that the vacuum actuator was made with a shaft that is longer than needed. The very powerful actuator puts excessive force on the grille causing it to contort in the area where the head light mounts which creates misalignment within minutes of straightening out the defect. If you look at early press photos closely you will see misalignment in these grilles in brand new cars.
Do you want to replace those worn out actuators yourself or are you looking for some great information on aligning the grille in your Cougar?
