These spacer / washers were used on the rear belts of 1968 - 1973 Cougars. 1968 used two per bolt for a total of eight, 69-71 used one per rear belt for a total of four and 72-73 used one per belt on the inner only as the outer belts had a re-tractor in the rear 72-73. They were red to guide the line workers on placement.

New replacement J-nut or they are sometimes called U-nuts. These clip into those square holes in the fender aprons for fastening the fenders on 1967-70 Mercury Cougar and Ford Mustangs. These clips are 5/8 inches from the hole center to folded edge. We also see the same clips with 27/32 inch spacing for fender mounting. Numerous other uses, we find this clip on the hidden headlight buckets on 1967-68 Cougar and XR7's.

This 1/2" tall unique little screw was used on several different trim parts on the early Mercury Cougars. In 1967 - 1968 there were eight per wheel lip moulding, two per fender extension moulding, two per center grille moulding and five per hood lip moulding for a total of 50 screws. In 1969-1973 they were used on the wheel lips mouldings. The 1971 - 1973 hood lip mouldings used the same screw but it was 5/8" tall.
