Used locking pawl for the 1970 - 1979 Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang that is equipped with a factory tilt steering column. This unit works in conjunction with a pin and is responsible for locking the tilt column in place. In many cases, the pin tends to move out of place and break or chip the teeth of the locking pawl. Locking pawl catch pin and locking pawl pin for your 70-73 Lincoln - Mercury - Ford tilt steering columns. This is an improved reproduction with cir-clips to prevent movement, avoiding damage to you locking pawl. These shafts are notorious for working their way out of place with normal use. This retainer clamps together the two edges of the shroud and sets into the mounting holes on the column. The original is very hard to remove because of the saw blade teeth inside the grooves, and most times the tabs will easily break off. This reproduction will not have those teeth.
