looks like a genuine Autolite battery when cover is fitted
Not something you need, but it does look good when detailing the engine compartment. Fits perfectly.
Works great. With a plain sided battery you can't tell it isn't original.
This is a nice cover made from hard but tough plastic. I'd like it better if it was flexible and had the old "hard rubber" feel of a 1968 24F, but this isn't '68, either. Many modern batteries will require mild (under 1/4") massaging of the post holes, and I had my Dremel standing by. Bam, it's on. The red is a tad more vivid than the pictures, and matched my memory of what tehr eal ones looked like.
Put this on my NAPA 84 month battery (flat top). Cover is a little bit bigger than the battery itself (it's a BCI# 24F battery), but looks really nice and even includes the little tag for the positive terminal. Nice way to use a modern battery but hide that fact to the casual observer.
I saw a few cars with these at a car show. At first, I thought it was really dumb, when it wasn't hard to tell that it was a "fake" top for your battery. Just as a matter of principle, I like things as original looking as possible. Ultimately, I chose to put this on one of my several cougars. It is very good for what it is. I still am not sure I like the idea. For now, it is on the car and the price was certainly reasonable. At worst, it is an inexpensive experiment.
