Hard to find but worked great!
Asked Don what foam for 69 decor upholstery, he pointed me to these. I bought the upholstery from WCCC and had it installed locally. Shop was impressed with quality & fit. They cut an hour off install price because it went so smoothly. :)
This seat cushion foam fit up very nicely with new 1968 XR7 upholstery from WCCC. My upholstery guy had no problem with it. Due to its backing material, no burlap underlayment was required. Seating 'feel' is plenty firm. Happy with my purchase. Can recommend this item to others.
This foam was a perfect replacement for my aging foam. Using the original lanards etc... I was able to achieve the ideal seat shape. Have over 5000 miles On the new seats and only good things to report.
The foam is molded perfectly with all the slots for listing rods in all the correct places. I had no problems with it being softer than the original, in fact, I think it was the same or a little firmer than the original. I only had two problems. 1) the foam for the seat back should have also included the outside rear top and side foam pieces that I had to re-use from my original foam. (mine had a moldy smell so I really did not want to re-use it, but I had no choice) 2) I could not get regular hog rings to go all the way through the material in the listing rod areas. They just weren't long enough. I ended up cutting long pieces of bailing wire and bending them into extra long looking staples that I could push through the listing material, foam and then twist tightly around the internal listing wires. Other than those two minor issues, the seat foam worked perfectly and my seats turned out AWESOME!
Fit's good
I purchased this for my 68 with Decore interior. It was easy to work with and filled the new seat covers very well. I took some precautions mentioned in an earlier review about adding more support when I replaced the burlap because this foam does seem to be softer than original. The only "fit" issue that I can tell is the bolsters on the sides are not as pronounced as originals, so a little "build up" on seat bolsters might be desirable. A mistake that I made was not trimming off the seam that was left along the sides from the molding process. When the vinyl is stretched the seam is VERY noticeable and distracts from the clean appearance that would have been present with new covers. I did install these myself (first time) with no rear issues in a weekend. I could have done the job in a day, but I rebuilt and painted the seat tracks and waited a day to reassemble. There is a pad that is located at the rear of the seat, toward the top that is not included in this foam. I reused the original.
The material is thicker and more rigid than the original. This makes it difficult to install the DI upholstery kits without damaging them. It takes a bit of finesse but they can be made to look acceptable. For the cost it would be nice to be able to get foam that’s actually made for the application.
