Reproduction steering column flange bumper for the Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang equipped with the tilt / tilt away steering column. This flange is made of a material known as UHMW, or Ultra High Molecular Weight plastic. This material has been used by NASA for many parts that were formerly made of nylon. This material is five times stronger than nylon, and has a much higher impact rating. Compared to the original nylon part, this piece should not have to be replaced for a good number of years. Ford used this part to keep the tilt / tilt away steering column's flanges in the knuckle assembly from breaking itself apart during actuation. Because of the forces generated in the tilt / tilt away column's actuation, your knuckle assembly will fail due to metal to metal contact if this piece is missing.
Replaces Ford part # C7SZ-3D565C.
